Technical Details of Simulators
The following are some of the technical specifications that make the simulators used here at Northern Swing the most cutting edge simulators available on the market. For further technical information please feel free to visit www.aboutgolf.com.
Ground Breaking Technology
At the heart of any effort to accurately replicate the game of golf indoors must lie intricate technology and focused technologists with a thirst for continual improvement. About Golf’s simulator is the collaboration of two seminal golf technology companies who are re-writing the standards for indoor golf on a daily basis.
Ball And Club Tracking
Ball And Club Tracking are produced through an exclusive partnership with EDH, Ltd. of South Africa. EDH's scientists have been working to perfect EDH Tracking technology for over fifteen years, working specifically on golf for the last five years, and working directly with About Golf’s developers for the last two years. The final product is derived from very stable and reliable military ballistic technology designed by EDH to track artillery fire for over thirty miles with a margin of error of less than .01%.
Sim Sensor
The Sim Sensor applies patented 3D phased-array microwave technology that operates at 7,000 cycles per second, providing an amazingly accurate view of the flying ball and club head for their entire flight.
The Sim Sensor, once properly calibrated, needs little or no ongoing adjustment. While system failures are extremely rare, if a sensor fails a replacement can be delivered overnight and installed by the user in about 15 minutes. Performance updates to the Sim Sensor can be delivered via email, and automatically load when the system is started up.
Software
Software is exclusively supplied by About Golf’s parent company, Friendly Software, who has been advancing its golf simulation technology since 1988. With a team of more than a dozen high-end developers, Friendly has invested over $10 million in the last decade to create the most advanced golf simulation code base in the world.
Friendly Software, producers of Microsoft Golf 1998 and 1999 Editions, has distributed more PC golf games than any other company.
About Golf’s graphics are unparalleled, with greater resolution and detail, including moving clouds, flags that blow the direction and intensity of the wind, and even tee signs that can be read.

About Golf’s physicists continue to perfect algorithms that translate the Sim Sensor's tracking data into accurate shot results, including precise collision physics relative to trees, rocks, cart paths, sloped lies, and all types of terrain.

Only About Golf provides a fully 3D rendered environment, critical to realistic play. Trees are fully 3D, so collisions with trunks, leaves, and branches are just as in real life. It's actually possible to hit a ball into the cup-holder of a golf cart.

Taking the quality, accuracy, and quantity of shot data and information to a level never before attained by simulators or commercial launch monitors, the About Golf simulator is the ultimate game improvement device. Visual feedback and displayed data combine to provide the golfer with elements not attainable anywhere, with any other technology. It makes the About Golf simulator a better place to get better than the golf course itself.
About Golf’s driving range is designed to provide the ultimate in functionality for practice, self-analysis, teaching, and club-fitting. Accurate shot data provides the perfect environment for game improvement.
About Golf’s exclusive Swing Scope provides an accurate graphical display of horizontal club strike vector, club face angle, ball flight, and smash factor.
The About Golf simulator is the ultimate tool for teaching pros.

Extensive and accurate ball, club, and shot data are provided after each shot.

Practice skill shots like long putts, chipping and sand shots with the various range venues.
